As a kid I remember there were two types of sick days. The "oh no...I feel sort of ill..." *crosses fingers and hope you have just enough fever to pass for sick and spend the rest of the day at home enjoying a day away from school.*And the "...just gonna lay here and hope the earth swallows me whole to end my suffering..." actual sick.
